Advancing American expertise on China

China Connections

Launched in 2025, this series spotlights leading thinkers on China and U.S.-China relations to share their expertise, analyze current events, and highlight career opportunities in the China field. This monthly series, held primarily in person at George Washington University and virtually, provides students, young professionals, and the public with a deeper understanding of contemporary China-related issues.

Students Finding Common Ground

Launched in 2024, this program brings American and Chinese students together to collaborate on projects addressing areas where U.S.-China cooperation is urgently needed amid strategic competition between the two countries. The program develops practical projects in areas such as education, public health, peace and security, and climate, while identifying new areas for bilateral cooperation.

Expert Working Group

The US-China Education Trust, with support from the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, launched the working group “Investing in Deeper American Knowledge about China” to address the sharp decline in opportunities for American graduate students to study and conduct fieldwork in China. Bringing together leading scholars and practitioners, the project seeks to advance U.S.-China educational engagement and produce concrete policy recommendations for both governments.

The American Studies Network

The American Studies Network (ASN), launched in 2004, is a consortium of 55 Chinese academic institutions that offer American Studies academic courses and are committed to strengthening the study of the United States in China. Since its formation, the network has served as a key vehicle for bringing together scholars and students through annual meetings and international conferences that address topical issues in the field.

American Studies Association Delegation

USCET has sponsored the participation of faculty from its American Studies Network (ASN) partners in the Annual Meeting of the American Studies Association, enabling Chinese scholars to engage with the international academic community. This program has grown from sponsoring the first Chinese delegation of six scholars in 2000 to regularly supporting three to four scholars annually, strengthening individual expertise and internationalizing the study of the United States in China.

Live from Washington

The Live from Washington series, launched during the 2020 presidential election, features prominent experts from academia, government, business, and media to provide analysis of major political events and their implications for U.S.-China relations. The series offers insider perspectives on American politics, economics, and society for Chinese audiences.

Three Decades of Chinese Students in America

USCET’s joint report with the China Data Lab at UC San Diego’s 21st Century China Center examines the changing composition and experiences of Chinese students who earned degrees in the United States over three decades. The research provides comprehensive insights into educational exchange patterns and trends between the two countries.

Elevating the Asian American Experience

Asian American Authors

The Asian American Authors series, launched in 2012, introduces outstanding Asian American authors and their literary works to American and Chinese audiences through discussions of their experiences with American multiculturalism. This program highlights diverse voices and perspectives within contemporary American literature and society.

Asian Women Trailblazers

The Asian Women Trailblazers series was launched in 2021 to contribute to the fight against anti-Asian violence and to highlight the contributions of Asians to the fabric of American society. The series recognizes the accomplishments of trailblazing AAPI women, offers them a platform to share their stories, spotlights the Asian American experience, and helps to inspire the next generation.
